Dubai is a city on the move, with soaring skyscrapers constantly being built, and the sound of jackhammers almost omnipresent in a place with unparalleled rates of construction.

Deira, the commercial hub of the city, lies on the right bank of the Dubai creek and is known for its great shopping and UAE hotels. There is a chaotic charm about Deira, with its winding streets and loud, noisy activity, quite different from the peace and quiet of the rest of the city. Not to be outdone, Abu Dhabi, the capital city, is often referred to as the 'Manhattan of the Middle East', due to its glittering high-rises office and apartment blocks. Although a mostly modern city, Abu Dhabi still has significant remnants of its historical past, evident in places such as the Al Hisn Fort, the palace and the museum.
